Children's Museum and Camping

Brian is done with school until the end of September! Yea! Needless to say, we have been busy trying to have as much fun as possible before Brian starts school again. Last week we went to the Children's Museum here in Cincinnati, which the kids absolutely LOVED! I have to say, it was pretty great and we may end up getting an annual pass. It wasn't quite as amazing as the one in Salt Lake, but it was still perfect for keeping the kids entertained for several hours.

So, this past weekend we actually went camping. Yep, you heard me right, camping. It was only overnight and it was in a civilized campsite, but it was still CAMPING, with a tent and everything. We found a state park not too far from Cincinnati, so we decided to go break in our new tent. The area was really beautiful, with a great lake and "beach." For the most part, it was very relaxing and pretty. However, there are several things I learned about camping that are worth remembering for next time:

1. A roll-out foam pad, 2 sleeping bags, and several blankets are not NEARLY enough padding to keep a rock from digging into my hipbone all night long. Time to invest in a blow-up. 2. If there is anything at the campsite that could potentially kill a person, my kids will definitely find and/or do it, including but not limited to: a) finding and eating the unlimited amount of wild "blueberries" surrounding the campsite.

b) playing with the electric box at the campsite.

c) falling off the campchair and as a result almost falling headfirst into the campfire.

3. Bugs are loud. And apparently they don't sleep. Both characteristics which were shared with the campers down the road. Lucky us! Brian and I managed to rack up a whole 4 hours of sleep. Earplugs will not be forgotten next time!

Amazingly, both kids survived the campout. On second thought, I think it's amazing me and Brian survived! Despite the fact that everything did not go perfect, the kids had a great time and we plan on going camping with our friends in a couple of weeks. Hey, I'm gonna be a pro at this pretty soon! Ok, that's probably going a bit far...
